Sometimes there are events happening in LA that are not mentioned in the LA times, you can’t find it on Facebook, and you certainly didn’t hear about it from your friends or colleagues. These events or outings in particular are passed on through word of mouth and if you’re lucky enough like me to hear about them, you MUST jump on the opportunity and check it out. Take for example this past weekend when a person I met in passing was telling me about this great outdoor event that happens a few times during the summer called the Chinatown Summer Nights. I immediately had to witness what exactly he was talking about. I took my car and drove towards the north end of downtown into Chinatown, a magical place that I have not been to since I was in college 5 years ago. What exactly was I missing?
Turns out there was an entire event happening down there that brought hipsters, food trucks, fashion vendors, bands, and DJ’s all together to rock out these amazing LA summer nights. It was a specatular evening all in all and AGAIN I found more fashion gurus that I simply fell in love with. My first stop through the vendors was a designer named LOK’D. He creates jewelry made out of handmade Legos; mine in particular is a necklace made in the formation of a neck tie. You can visit his website here at www.lokdjewelry.com. His other pieces include bedazzling rings, amazing hairbows, and really innovative bracelets.
Another fabulous and up and coming designer that I discovered while walking around is a woman named Monique whom is the designer of Selvedge Dry Goods. Her jewelry line is unique in that it is all Eco-friendly, re-constructed, and vintage. I bought one of her necklaces that remind me of summer and the colors on it. You can find her designs here at www.selvedgedrygoods.com
My last stop in Chinatown for the evening was dinner where the movie Rush Hour was shot. Hahahah…Gotta love Hollywood. Delicious Chinese food, great company, and good laughs all called for a great night cap to a fantastic evening. You should all come down to Chinatown and check out their Summer Nights events that are happening for only 2 more Saturdays throughout the Summer(August 11th and 25th). You can find their schedule of events here at http://chinatownsummernights.com/. Go get lost in the culture!!!
